Join us Friday, June 12th, for a deep dive into school finance. With the current K-12 school finance formula expiring next year, this will be one of the biggest and most important topics of discussion during the 2027 legislative session. Our panel will help us understand how schools are currently financed, current trends within our local districts, and the opportunities and challenges facing each of our districts.
This month, our panel will include Dr. Michael Schumacher, Superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District; Dr. Brent Yeager, Superintendent of the Olathe School District; and Dr. Gillian Chapman, Superintendent of the Blue Valley School District.
- Dr. Gillian Chapman serves as the Superintendent of the Blue Valley School District. Prior to coming to Blue Valley, Dr. Chapman was the superintendent of Teton County School District No. 1 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where she was named the 2023 Wyoming Superintendent of the Year. Prior to her time in Wyoming, she spent 21 years working in the Shawnee Mission School District where she held leadership roles at both the district level and the building level.
- Dr. Michael Schumacher serves as the Superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District. Prior to becoming Superintendent, Dr. Schumacher worked as the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Executive Director of Secondary Human Resources, and Associate Superintendent of Human Resources with the Shawnee Mission Schools. Prior to his time at Shawnee Mission, he was a high school science teacher, assistant principal, and principal at several local schools.
- Dr. Brent Yeager serves as the Superintendent of the Olathe School District. Prior to becoming Superintendent, Dr. Yeager worked as the Executive Director of General Administration and Elementary Programs, the Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services, and an elementary principal with the Olathe Schools. Outside of his role as Superintendent, Dr. Yeager also works as an adjunct professor at Baker University's Overland Park campus.
