The Overland Park Chamber of Commerce seeks a Director of Economic Development to promote economic growth through the expansion, retention, and recruitment of jobs and small business development in Overland Park and to fulfill the economic development objectives of the Chamber Economic Development Council and Opportunity Now strategic plan.    

Overland Park is primarily a suburban office market dedicated to fostering economic growth, enhancing community development, and driving sustainable progress in our region. With a population of nearly 200,000, Overland Park’s AAA bond rating, record-setting school districts and highly educated workforce have attracted international and regional headquarters, small businesses and high-end retail. Overland Park is the second-largest city in the Kansas City MSA and the state of Kansas.

The ideal candidate must be results-oriented, and self-driven with a proven track record of successfully attracting and retaining businesses and developing programs and initiatives to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs. Must have a strong understanding of economic principles, market trends, and industry dynamics and possess excellent communications skills. Under the direction of the SVP of Economic Development, the ideal candidate must possess skills to think creatively and strategically to solve complex problems and foster relationships within the city, region, and state, including private investors, public partners, stakeholders and staff.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a related field (business, economics, marketing) and a minimum of two years of demonstrated success in business attraction and retention, with a focus on the office market. Familiarity with the Johnson County and Kansas City metro commercial real estate market is ideal. Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) and/or Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) designation preferred. 

Competitive salary and benefits, including insurance, 401(k), car allowance and cell phone allowance will be provided based on qualifications.
