The Johnson County Museum began as an all-volunteer organization in 1967 with the mission of collecting, preserving and sharing the history of Johnson County with the community. The museum has been recognized over 20 times for excellence in exhibitions, programming and publications by national, regional and state organizations. In 2022, the Johnson County Museum received national accreditation through the American Alliance of Museums. This recognition demonstrates its commitment to excellence, accountability, high professional standards and continued institutional improvement.
