Join us Friday, June 12th, for a deep dive into school finance. With the current K-12 school finance formula expiring next year, this will be one of the biggest and most important topics of discussion during the 2027 legislative session. We’ll have a panel of experts in school finance to help us understand how it works and what their expectations are going into next year.

• Rep. Nikki McDonald represents the 49^th district in the Kansas House of Representatives, which is split between Overland Park and Olathe. She sits on the committees for Legislative Modernization, K-12 Education Budget, Health and Human Services, and the Education Funding Task Force. Outside of her work in the legislature, Rep. McDonald is a substitute teacher with the Blue Valley Schools and teaches Adult English Language Learners at JCCC.

• Dr. Michael Schumacher serves as the Superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District. Prior to becoming Superintendent, Dr. Schumacher worked as the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Executive Director of Secondary Human Resources, and Associate Superintendent of Human Resources with the Shawnee Mission Schools. Prior to his time at Shawnee Mission, he was a high school science teacher, assistant principal, and principal at several local schools. 

• Dr. Brent Yeager serves as the Superintendent of the Olathe School District. Prior to becoming Superintendent, Dr. Yeager worked as the Executive Director of General Administration and Elementary Programs, the Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services, and an elementary principal with the Olathe Schools. Outside of his role as Superintendent, Dr. Yeager also works as an adjunct professor at Baker University's Overland Park campus.
