What Would HR Do? Analyzing Complex Leave Scenarios

This advanced leave law session will skip the basics and jump right into tough real-life scenarios under the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans With Disabilities Act, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, workers’ compensation, and state laws. We’ll analyze how courts and juries in various jurisdictions decided employer liability in leave situations, and we’ll discuss what the employers in the scenarios got right, and what they could have done differently.

This session will feature a variety of timely employment law issues, presented by a sequence of speakers, rolled into one 60-minute package. Topics to be covered include: issues that arise when employees are misclassified as independent contractors; the current status of workplace DEI programs; employee benefit issues; and employee work authorization and immigration issues in the workplace.
