K-State Olathe is seeking applications from individuals looking to join the growing Communications and Marketing team. The Communications and Marketing Specialist develops editorial content to support strategic campus initiatives. This includes collaborating with the marketing team and key campus stakeholders to plan and write announcements and articles that help promote and highlight academic programs, research and other activities on the campus. In addition to content development, the Communications and Marketing Specialist helps keep the website updated and organized as well as supporting K-State Olathe’s social media presence.

Responsibilities Include:

Write news releases in AP style that are used to inform internal and external audiences about the academic, engagement and research progress at K-State Olathe and that promote academic, professional development and community events. These articles are distributed to media (if applicable), the K-State audience through K-State Today, K-State Olathe's monthly e-newsletter that is distributed to around 3,000 subscribers, partner newsletters, etc. Writing also will include an occasional research story for Seek, K-State's award-winning research magazine.

Social media management – Help plan and post news, information about upcoming events and other content on K-State Olathe’s social media channels. This requires collaboration with the marketing team and key campus stakeholders.

Website – Post written news announcements and articles on the K-State Olathe website, maintain the News section of the website, and update other sections of the website as needed to support key initiatives.

Other duties as assigned.

This position will be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement at the discretion of the Director of Communications and Marketing once required training is complete and the individual has demonstrated the ability to successfully perform assigned duties independently.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor’s degree, or 8 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in communications.
  • Strong demonstrated writing skills
  • Excellent organizational capabilities
  • Strong evidence of technical capability using software relevant to Communications such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of website content management systems
  • Experience with editorial development and media relations
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven ability to execute multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience using social media in a university/business environment
  • Experience with photography and image editing tools
  • Experience with editorial development and media relations

Other Requirements:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range: $48,000- $55,000 ($23.08 - $26.44 hourly)
