About This Role:

K-State Olathe is seeking qualified applicants for an Accountant II position. This position will serve as part of the campus finance team assisting with budget preparation and monitoring along with finance and accounting.

This position will provide bookkeeping and accounting tasks ensuring the university funding is appropriately monitored and accounted for within guidelines supporting the K-State Olathe campus. Organization and coordination of accounting workflow is essential. In order to meet and exceed the expectations of the diverse groups integral to the success of the campus, this position will require an individual that has a strong work ethic, is personable, adaptive, creative, innovative, and organized.

The incumbent will require a strong understanding and management of all functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank account management for multiple accounts pertaining to various checking, money management and bond accounts. The position works monthly with partners and campus units to perform bank account reconciliations and works with the Director of Business and Financial Services to create new procedures as needed for accounting functions. In addition, this position plays an active role in collecting the information for developing the yearly budget as well as monitoring and tracking expenditures throughout the year assisting with the yearly audit.

The Accountant II is also required to have a level of working knowledge to provide enough redundancy of knowledge and technical capabilities to maintain the fiscal integrity and function of the campus in the short term absence of a Director of Business and Financial Services.

BASIC JOB FUNCTION(S)

Provides bookkeeping and accounting management and assists with administrative duties to accomplish the fiscal work of the K-State Olathe campus:

  • Performs all aspects of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable related to Olathe programs, grants, and activities including appropriate organization, tracking, document, and reporting
  • Bank account management for multiple accounts pertaining to various checking, money management and bond accounts. Works monthly with partners and campus units to perform bank account reconciliations
  • Assist in the development of new procedures as needed for accounting functions
  • Maintain the integrity and function of the campus in the short-term absence of a Director of Business and Finance Services

Contract Administration:

  • Maintain and manage files on all leases, contracts, and other legal documents
  • Review and follow up on existing contracts
  • Research/background new vendors
  • Manage payment schedules and actions (check requisitions, invoice payments, international wires) and meet with individuals as needed to confirm satisfactory execution
  • Assist on purchase orders for project materials as needed

Reporting/Communication:

  • Documentation and reporting including assisting with yearly audit
  • Provide regular budget and expense reporting to campus units
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures for various accounting transactions
  • Maintain ongoing and open communication with all collaborators/partners working with the Olathe campus
  • Answer direct questions about policy and procedure issues

Handles special projects and assignments from the Director of Business and Finance Services, as needed. Other functions as the job requires to meet the needs and promote the success of the campus.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This individual reports to the Director of Business and financial Services and will interact primarily with the senior leadership team, research programs, and program leaders on the Olathe campus. 

This position will require working in a team environment. The activities and scope of this position will require interaction with outside contacts and entities on a continual basis. This position will interact on a regular basis with a broad scope of diverse individuals.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Excellent communication skills (as evidenced in written application and verbal).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks and project management software tools.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles. General understanding of Not-For-Profit policies and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret financial reports.
  • Experience working with purchase orders and invoice processing, account management, and spreadsheet reconciliation.
  • Strong organizational skills, working independently, and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to working as part of a team and contributing to a positive team atmosphere.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$43,500-$52,000
